If you’ve ever tried dating via a website or an app, I think you’ll find this book extremely relatable. The main character, Alison, has just gotten out of a long-term relationship and is looking to meet men outside her normal friend-sphere. This leads her to join a dating website. The story follows her journey through the many men she meets and dates she goes on. There were a few guys in there I was rooting for throughout the story, that ended up being duds or just plain disappointing; which unfortunately I think is true to life. The stories themselves are hilarious, and Stauffer did a great job with dialogue and situational humor (which I find is always funnier than punch-line jokes). I really empathized with Alison and her search for her love match. It’s tough out there, and she showed perseverance even when the pickings were slim. Since this is an honest review, I will say it didn’t end how I expected nor how I wanted it to, and I admit I was a smidge disappointed. I do think it stays true to the character though, and that is important. Overall I enjoyed the story, and it’s definitely a laugh out loud read. If you’re looking for a hilarious and sometimes cringe-worthy story of a modern woman looking for love in the big city via a dating website, then you’ll want to pick this one up! I received an ARC of this book from the author and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This review originally appeared on Books For The Living. This was a fun and addictive read—I felt like I was having a flashback to my own dysfunctional experience with online dating. After a break-up from a long-time boyfriend, Allison jumps into the online dating pool full force, and the stories that result are a series of sometimes unfortunate but always hilarious dates. Each chapter of the book represents a different online guy, and the conversations and experiences are SO true to real life. I have been on many online dating sites myself, and Allison’s experiences definitely mirrored my own. Allison struggles to find her Mr. Right, but she learns more about herself and what she values in a partner throughout the book. At times, the number of characters gets overwhelming, but it doesn’t take away from the flow of the story. This is a great read for anyone who has experienced the world of online dating—you will definitely be able to relate to the off-color emails and the in-person awkwardness that comes with the territory of Match.com and other sites. A quick but fun read! I received an Advance Review Copy of this book. All Opinions are my Own. Alison has just broken up with her boyfriend. After two years of dating, he was unable to fully commit to her. Having been away from the dating scene, and with six months free on Match.com, she decides to re-enter New York City’s single scene. While Alison seeks to improve her social life, her professional life starts to decay. Her job as an architectural conservator is put at risk when she starts to clash with her boss. She blows off steam by actively embracing online dating. Through Allison’s email exchanges we get an authentic look at the highs and lows of online correspondence. An example is Allison’s strict adherence to a “Pants On Policy” for her suitors. Through her experiences, Allison matures and starts to realize what really makes her happy. As a baby boomer, I missed out on text messaging and dating apps. This was a fun read and helped me better relate to the current crop of millennials looking for love. This is Amanda Stauffer’s debut novel. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

She did have a super cool career, and that was fun! But it felt like an attempt to make this book deeper than it was and to be a subplot. So. I felt like it was used. But nonetheless I really enjoyed reading that aspect. ( )
