Utter delight from start to finish. ( )

A sweet, light-hearted story. As the young angel is introduced to the world, new characters emerge. Illustrations by Alex Smith bring the English characters to life. A personal favorite is the desperate Kevin Hawkins, who evolves from a wanna-be villain to an innocent young man. Any and every elementary school-aged child should find themselves reading this book. I am reviewing for Librarything. I have to say that this is one of the cutest books I have read lately. It is so good on so many levels and is really well written. I laughed, I cried, I cried from laughing so hard.
This is a cute little story about an angel who comes to an older couple who lost their only child. The story brings happiness and loss into perspective and let's kids know that it is okay to have feelings. I must say I thought I was not really excited to read but when I got started and the the bus driver reminded me of the Honeymooners and I couldn't put it down. ( )

I loved this book. The story was sweet and charming and full of hope. A version of "Pinocchio" but with a farting angel instead! It's about loss and love, forgiveness, and joy. A reminder to treat everyone with kindness and love. The premise and plot are simple; a bus driver named Bert finds an angel in his pocket and takes him home. Trouble ensues when a Bad Guy wants the angel for himself. There's an adventure told in simple prose with a happy ending; I must say I found the writing direct but effective. It brought me to tears and made me smile. I wasn't convinced that I would like this book since it had a farting angel in it-I'm so over using bathroom humor as a motivator to get children to read but Almond made it a charming, and endearing trait for an angel to have. I thought the overall message was a good one. The book is well written and would be an excellent read aloud. Very enjoyable! ( )

I've been a [[David Almond]] fan since [Skellig] came out and my school librarian asked me to read it to be sure it was suitable for an elementary school audience. Offbeat fantasy for children is his genre, so I requested this book from Early Reviewers and was fortunate to win it.

This book would be perfect for second and third grade students, and a great read along with parents for that age group as well. The story is undeniably cute (not the usual Skellig adjective) and charming, with that distinctive British humour underlying the story's events. Lessons are learned, losses are made up, and all ends with a smile. Definitely recommended for its target audience; adults who are not into children's fantasy will probably not be amused. ( )
