Reverend Simeon Pease Cheney was the first modern composer to have noticed all the songs of the birds that he had heard during his ministry, coming to the garden of his cure, during the years 1860-1880. He noticed even the drops of water coming in badly shut in the watering can on the pavement of his yard. He even transcribed the particular sound made by the coat rack of the corridor when the wind was engulfing the trench coats and the pelerines in the winter. I was bewitched by this strange presbytery suddenly sonorous, and I began to be happy in this garden obsessed with the love that this man was carrying to his missing wife.--Translation of page 4 of cover by Grasset.
