This book has beautiful illustrations and bright colors. I liked the idea, but the rhythm wasn't well written, making it hard to read. Features diverse and non-traditional families, which meant it didn't quite fit our family values.

UNDER THE LOVE UMBRELLA by Davina Bell with illustrations by Allison Colpoys is simply a beautiful book with gorgeous illustrations in bright and neon colors. Not only is it a tender read it is glorious to page through this book. The umbrella becomes a symbol of love and security for the child and whenever she is in what she finds a threatening situation she congers up the thought of this umbrella which soothes her. A must own book. ( )

This is an adorable book! The bright neon colors really pop on the muted backgrounds and give it a different feel for a children's book, which I appreciate. There are some pages where the flow of the language is a little hard to pick up on, but overall this is a solid book with a sweet message. ( )

I am a mother of a 5- and a 7-year-old. I like the premise of this book. I would like my children to feel comforted by my love no matter where they are.

However, this book is only a 2.5 to 3 star in my opinion.

The rhythm of the words was off and that was bothersome to me. ("But over your head and just above/There's an umbrella of my love/ To show it's you I'm thinking of/Wherever you might be.")

I also did not enjoy the day-glo and fluorescent pink and orange colors in the illustrations. I think the book would have been better with mutued colors. ( )
