Starts off very strongly and finishes with a flourish. Kind of like a serious version of Avatar. Forest planet, sci-fi, big evil corporation. No giant blue people. A pack of haunted (?) dogs instead. My one gripe with this is some of the decision making and dialogue was a tad contrived especially at the crisis/turning points. ( )

Twice today people asked me "what are you reading?"

It was a lot of fun to say it's a sci-fi thing w neo-amish & zombie dogs on a moon in outer space that's a cross between the donner party, alive, and greenpeace.

It's a genre mashup sorta book but a good It doesn't pack a big punch like Tristan Egolf's Kornwolf, but that's okay . ( )

The mystery surrounding the dogs to which the title refers was the thread of this tale which I found the least interesting.

In summary, an early colonization effort goes horribly wrong because of failures of the corporation and many of those colonists die of starvation. The corporation covers this up by sweetening the terms for the remaiing colonists. Many years later, the corporation wants rid of them and in addition is prepared to wreck the local ecosytem in pursuit of profit. Enter the mystery, an ecologist, eco-terrorists and an unlikely slueth. That's the good part.

Introducing werewolves and mysticism did little to enhance the story for me. ( )
