Many Moons is an informational book which teaches young readers about the different phases of the moon. Each phase is compared to a shape the reader can relate to, such as a banana or a smile. Additionally, the last page of the book provides a more in depth description of each phase of the moon for readers who may be ready for the science behind the story. As the moon waxes and wanes, the narrator of this French picture-book compares its shape in the sky to various objects, from the bow a young boy uses to shoot arrows to a half-round of cheese eaten by a man one night. From a waxing crescent to a new moon, the various phases of the lunar cycle are covered... Originally published in France as Cette nuit-là, this engaging picture-book is printed on thick, cardboard-style paper, with dark black backgrounds, white text, and deep yellow moons (or not, in the case of the new moon). The result is a book that is quite interesting to look at, and to interact with physically, as one turns the pages. The artwork itself, depicting the various objects and people used in the comparisons, is engaging and humorous, while an afterword gives more information about the phases of the moon. Recommended to anyone looking for picture-books about the lunar cycle. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

I did not the first et this hidden meaning when I read it, I re-read it two times and then began to see this underlying theme. I'm not sure if children would see this or would have difficulty like I did. I want to read this to my students one day to see if they can grasp this hidden meaning behind the moon. ( )
