The second half of Rumer Godden's autobiography. Not as gripping as the first. . . this one is about friends and houses and dogs and a grown life. ( )

2327 A House with Four Rooms, by Rumer Godden (read 23 Sep 1990) This book has been a sheer joy to read. It begins with the return to England of the author after World War II, and then delightfully tells of Rumer Godden's crowded life since, up to the late 1970's. She divorced her first husband in the late 1940's and married James Nov. 26, 1949. He died in 1973. They lived in fantastic houses--for awhile in the house Henry James lived in in Rye. She toured America giving talks, and her comments are always gracious. She helped Jean Renoir make the movie The River. I found her account of the filming fascinating. This has been a great reading experience. ( )
