This book looks to be good on paper as a book that seeks to detail day-by day, the Japanese invasion of Singapore. It also puts a section on WW2 events occurring around the globe as the Japanese advances through the Malayan Peninsula. However, I was deeply disappointed by this book as it seems to focus more on listing down the people who died each day as well as giving them mini-biographies. Not that I don't consider their names important, but i think the book seems to be overpriced considering that it is just essentially a list of those who died each day with the narrative on the fall of Singapore taking a back seat. I maybe exaggerating but i think half of the pages of this book is just a list of those who died each day as well their mini-biographies(i.e. where the deceased studied, where they grew up). (Note:There were also mini-biographies of soldiers who survived the war). The typographical errors scattered around the book did not help it either. I don't like giving out low ratings since i know that writing books are not easy and that authors put in considerable efforts in writing books, but this book is just a big disappointment. The only praise i can give for this book are the wonderful pictures included in this book. ( ) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
This book provides a day-by-day history of the Malayan Campaign and the Fall of Singapore from the first alerts as the British prepared to move their forces on to a war footing on 29 November, through the fighting, to the Japanese imposing their rule on the Chinese in Singapore on 26 February - a total of 90 days. For each of the 90 days, all the major developments - military and political - are detailed along with information on every Allied soldier who died on that day.
