"Travel to Grishnaverse, a world of dark bargains struck by moonlight, of haunted towns and hungry woods, of talking beasts and gingerbread golems, where a young mermaid's voice can summon deadly storms and where a river might do a lovestruck boy's bidding but only for a terrible price. Inspired by myth, fairy tale, and folklore, author Leigh Bardugo has crafted a deliciously atmospheric collection of short stories filled with betrayals, revenge, sacrifice, and love." --… (altro)

I'm a sucker for authors using children stories they mentioned in their main novels for more world building and then actually publishing it. Just *chef's kiss* ( )

Grishaverse Full Read April/March in preparation for Shadow & Bone TV Series

My third of the new books read for this quest, though that makes this one sound a little more than it is. This book is half made of the earlier smaller 'Shadow & Bones' short stories of [b:Little Knife|20818790|Little Knife (Grishaverse, #2.6)|Leigh Bardugo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1402933942l/20818790._SX50_.jpg|40164691], [b:The Witch of Duva|13643163|The Witch of Duva (Grishaverse, #0.5)|Leigh Bardugo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1336644891l/13643163._SX50_.jpg|19258458], and [b:The Too-Clever Fox|17790188|The Too-Clever Fox (Grishaverse, #2.5)|Leigh Bardugo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1369846496l/17790188._SY75_.jpg|24881632], as well as three new Russian fairytale pieces from the lands around Ravka that all make big appearances in the Grishaverse books.

I really loved several of these. Important shoutouts. I love that the 'Nutrcracker' retelling involves the Nutcracker kissing both the brother and the sister, just as equally. I love the guest appearance of The Darkling in one of these, and what it expands for us on his family, and on another race that exists in this world, since that one is far less a retelling and more of a cross between 'The Little Mermaid' and another side story for The Darkling (and his mother's earlier choices), like [b:The Demon in the Wood|24641800|The Demon in the Wood (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy, #0.5)|Leigh Bardugo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1445169126l/24641800._SX50_.jpg|44254534].

As a note, this book does not collect (and nowhere else is collected the S&B short pieces for [b:The Demon in the Wood|24641800|The Demon in the Wood (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy, #0.5)|Leigh Bardugo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1445169126l/24641800._SX50_.jpg|44254534] & [b:The Tailor|17997353|The Tailor (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy, #1.5)|Leigh Bardugo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1369842991l/17997353._SX50_.jpg|25254362].) In fairy tales, clever thieves are rewarded for their ingenuity, but purloin this book and be hounded forever by a gingerbread golem who will hide your keys and spoil all your dinner parties by talking about the boring dream she had last night.
