Head Strong: The Bulletproof Plan to Boost Brainpower, Increase Focus, and Maximize Performance-in Just Two Weeks by Dave Asprey is a non-fiction book in which the author describes his journey for a more productive brain. Mr. Asprey is a tech entrepreneur and investor. I was very excited to read Head Strong: The Bulletproof Plan to Boost Brainpower, Increase Focus, and Maximize Performance-in Just Two Weeks by Dave Asprey, right off the bat, the author described symptoms which I identified with. Sluggish thought process, inability to remember as much as I used to, to process or learn new things. I chocked it up to old age and a full life, to be honest, that is one of the reasons I try to read as much as I can. Throughout the book the author explains how the brain works, and how to hack the brain to become more productive. The subject was fascinating and every chapter ends with some takeaways and things to change if you don’t want to trudge through the scientific explanations. About a quarter way thorough the book, I figured out the author is trying to sell me his supplements. Nevertheless, the author has some valuable information throughout the book and his lifestyle advice makes sense and is something I have heard about before. I did ask my cousin, a neuroscientist, about the author’s conclusions – he disagreed with many of them (to put it politely). Very well researched, and some cutting edge science is presented here. I really like Bulletproof Radio and highly recommend many of the BP Radio interviews the author cites in this book.
I am taking away some good nuggets from reading this book, and have some things to try as I learned a lot about mitichondria.
In terms of diet and nutrition, I still can't buy into the Brain Octane cost, no matter how much of a exogenous ketone hit it provides. I'm OK using my MCT oil, and following my ketogenic low carb high fat diet, and it is working very well for me.
I also did find it interesting but am not sure what to do about exposure to potential mold if the impact is indeed as high as the author describes. ( )
