A major new anthology of Percy Bysshe Shelley's work, edited by Jack Donovan and Cian Duffy. 'My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings- Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!' Percy Bysshe Shelley was one of the leading English Romantics and is critically regarded among the finest lyric poets in the English language. His major works include the long visionary poems 'Prometheus Unbound' and 'Adonais', an elegy on the death of John Keats. His shorter, classic verses include 'To a Skylark', 'Mont Blanc' and 'Ode to the West Wind'. This important new edition collects his best poetry and prose, revealing how his writings weave together the political, personal, visionary and idealistic. This Penguin Classics edition includes a fascinating introduction, notes and other materials by leading Shelley scholars, Jack Donovan and Cian Duffy. Percy writing is beautiful at times and other times angry depending what he is taking about. He could write a longer poem about the landscape and I'd still fall in love. He's angry at times for a good reason. He's a known atheist and didn't like religion. He saw the flaws as you will read in "Queen Mab" or other works in this book. If you don't like people constantly complaining about religion, I'd avoid Shelley, but I wouldn't avoid him because he's a damn good writer.
I still find it kind of odd Ozymandias is his most recognizable poem. Made odd isn't the word, but it's not his best poem. It's quick, has good line, but it's hard to figure out what he meant. I thought most of his poems where like these, but I was wrong. Most of his other poems are obvious what he is talking about. Queen Mab is still my favorite, but I liked a lot of others.
This also includes dramas and essays as well. Shelley was a philosopher and liked talking about philosophy and literature. ( )
