Series note: This prequel novella was published after the other books in the series and presents the story of Daisy and Marcus Sloane's relationship. It can be read either before beginning the series or at its end.

It has been a while since I've read a Kristen Ashley book and this short story reminded me both of her skillful plotting and characterization, but also her problematic writing style.

Daisy's story is heartbreaking and one cannot help but admire her strength and resilience in the face of her difficult childhood and the traumatic event that ultimately leads her into Marcus's arms. Marcus is a hard man with questionable business pursuits, but his love for Daisy is undeniable and it is clear that without his support she might never have recovered.

In terms of the writing, the story suffers somewhat from Ashley's repetitive word choices and tendency toward over-describing mundane thoughts and actions. Moreover, I could have done without Daisy's jarring euphemism for her "lady bits".

In terms of the audiobook narration, Suzanne Jones does an admirable job and her southern accent for Daisy is delightful.

Overall, this was an entertaining listen and I look forward to getting back into this series as Ashley is a wonderful storyteller. ( )

Loved it!
Very well written & Fast-paced.
Great mc's. It was a lot of fun learning Daisy and Marco's story.

All the other characters made appearances in the story.

Daisy has never had much of a life until Miss Annamae gives her the pearl necklace that makes it possible for her to escape from her mother's life. When Marcus finds her, she is stripping in a club of which he is part owner. He keeps his eye on her knowing that he will make her his, until the night that she is raped in the parking lot of the club. Then he knows he is going to have to take it slow, but he isn't going to let her slip away.

Rock Chick Reawakening is not only a prequel, but it also serves as a summary for the end of the Rock Chick series. The character of Daisy is well developed, especially since the story is told from her perspective, however, the character of Marcus is more of a mystery, and that may have been done on purpose by the author. Some of the decisions that Daisy makes are a little too submissive considering the way Marcus approaches his relationship with her, but overall Rock Chick Reawakening is a satisfying prequel to this series. ( )

Wow what a book.

First of all I was really nervous to read this book, readers of The Rock Chick series already know and love Daisy.

We know she's loving, had a really hard life, prior to Marcus, including being raped, we also know Marcus helped in her recovery from that.

We know from Jules book that she had been involved in shop lifting and had some sort of experience with Juvie.

We know she worked for Smithie at some point(Jet's book) and she stripped and was very good at it, so good she owned a Porsche and had a velvet rope and helps Jets sister Lottie with her moves.

We know she likes 'Sparkle' and she has big hair and boobs. Plus a laugh that sounds like bells.

We know Marcus has shady business dealings but he loves Daisy enough that by the end of the rock chick series he is cleaning up. Sometimes he works with Ren, Vito and even Lee help him out. We even know a little about the shady business from Knight and Sebring and Raid's book.

We first meet Marcus and Daisy when they are already together living in a 'castle', and many of us wondered how they got together, they seem very different and why a castle??.

So many readers were looking forward to this story but will it live up to expectation..... Absolutely..... Only I think all fans will say they want more..

There are lots of clever mentions and even appearances from characters from other books and series.....

Sniff, Roam and Park. Indie and Stevie shoe shopping. Smithie and LaTeesha. Lee, Darius, Shirleen and Luke.
We hear about Hawk and learn a bit about Lenny, the bouncer at the club, mention of Hector.
There are some interesting things, for example in the rock chick series Luke has a conversation with Jules about Daisy when Jules finds out her husband is Marcus Sloan, she is a social worker and know what he does so she finds it difficult to tally being friends with Daisy considering her work. Luke defends Daisy and I didn't really think much of it but in this story you see that Luke and the boys have seen what Daisy went through and we know how strongly they feel about that sort of treatment of women. They were even instrumental in catching the offender and didn't want to leave when he met his punishment at the hands of Marcus. This makes his conversation with Jules mean more to me.

And i laughed when Dawn was mentioned that was classic. Interesting observation about Vince.

We also learn that Lee is just starting out in his investigation business and Marcus is testing him out to see if they can work together as they know his family are in the force but they also know he's best friends with Darius, so he isn't straight laced with the law.

We learn a bit more about Marcus, which is very interesting as to how he is the man he is today.

There is no major drama in the book,aside from the rape which is not described at all only the effects of being beaten up and even when she has a nightmare there is no description. It is mostly about Daisy and Marcus and how they get together and how he looks after her.

A great read, a novella though KA version of a novella is probably as long as another author's book. ( )

It is difficult to put in to words how wonderful this book is. You thought you knew their story, but you didn't know the best parts of it. ( )
