Doctor Strange (2015-) #13 - Jason Aaron, Kevin Nowlan, Chris Bachalo
There's a new series called Dr. Strange the Sorcerer's Supremes which I assumed meant this was canceled. I've been reluctant to read this issue, saving my last of Aaron's Strange. Since I refuse to read him as written by many authors - who I feel get his compassionate side wrong, in that it's not as present as it should be - I thought I'd have no more Strange to savor.
Turns out this series will be going on, and will be written by Aaron so there was really nothing to worry about. Another issue that's perfect for Halloween: Dr. Strange is trapped by Nightmare, who's determined to break Strange's mind. He has no spell to rely on, so he has to think his way out of the situation, one that becomes more personal when he realizes that Zelma and Wong have come into Strange's own dreamscape to attempt to rescue him.
Nightmare explains that he's going to try to break Strange, Zelma and Wong and see who will break first. He's gleeful at this new game: he can use the torment of Strange's friends to try and goad the Sorcerer Supreme into a quicker breaking. Instead, it only makes him more determined to break everyone.
Lovely wrap up of this issue, although when I say that, I mean cliffhanger. So many comic endings are, though, and this is no exception. I can't complain, though: I'm looking forward to what happens next as Aaron sets this up. Aaron is one of my favorite authors, and I love what he's given to Marvel: I thought his leaving Wolverine would mean I wouldn't be interested in his next series. I gave this series a shot just because it was Aaron writing it, and I've become hooked.
Thank you, Marvel.
