This book is an interesting story about a man with the ability to call down owls. The man was a good person, who would help sick owls get better. Con, a young boy who was interested in what the owl man did would accompany him and learn from the owl man. All the towns people would come to the woods to watch the owls go to him, but one day a strange, scary looking man appeared and watched how the owls went to the man. The stranger wanted to take away the power of the owl man, so the next day he was dressed just like the owl man and tried to go and get some owls. The owls knew he was an imposter and took revenge for the real owl man. After that, all the owls went to Con, and he became the new owl man. I thought this book was cute, and could be a good lesson to students about how cheaters never win. The strange man wanted to take away the power of the kind owl man, but it didn’t work, and he ended up being attacked by all the owls. Interesting story, I would recommend it as a read. ( )

"The Man Who Could Call Down Owls" was a weird book that wasn't really my favorite. It starts off by telling the story a man who wore a white cloak and carried a wand around. This man had to the power to call down owls. By his side was a boy named Con. Con went with the man everywhere he went. They talked about different kinds of owls and where they came from. One day a stranger came out and was jealous of the man. He wanted his powers. Con tried to tell the stranger that the powers were not his to take, but the stranger did not listen. The next day the stranger has the mans cloak and wand. Con asks him where he got that and the stranger said he took it. He begun trying to summon the owls and the owls came. So many owls came that they attacked the stranger and he ran for his life leaving the cloak and wand behind. The book end with the power of summoning owls being passed down to Con. This book is not your average fairy tale and I am not sure of the meaning behind it. ( )

This book shows the power of good will always over trump evil. The owl man went out every night with his followers. One of his admirers is a young boy named Con. Con was interested in following in the owl man's footsteps. One night when the owl man and Con were doing their nightly routine of owl watching in the forest there was a stranger sneaking among them. The next night when the followers gathered to watch the owl man gather the owls the stranger from the night before was disguised as the man but Con noticed and realized that his friend would never return. The owls came down and scared the stranger off then took to the shoulders of Con, their new leader. ( )

A story about a man who has magic poweres to call to owls. A young boy names Con learns the trade and eventually takes the owl man's place after he passes on as an owl. The moral of the story is to show curiocity, learn from elders, so you can perform magic. ( )
