Banks series and was probably expecting this book to be of the same quality. It is basically a story relate by the three main characters, the starlet, the stalker and the policeman. Each gives a vivid description of their depressing lives. The love angle was predictable and early on it takes the appearance of a teen age love story. The final interview with the supposed killer was tedious. All my reviews and other tidbits can be seen at https://pensionersrants.blogspot.com/ This is the first Peter Robinson novel I have read and I loved it! I will definitely check out his other books. I was always on the edge of my seat throughout the entire novel. I will recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries and thrillers. Absolutely 5 stars! I received this book courtesy of GoodReads First Reads giveaway. Before Sarah Broughton became a rising television star in Hollywood, she was just Sally Bolton, Yorkshire girl and girlfriend of a high-profile rock star. In that life, she plunged deeply into the world of drugs, but she managed to escape that life and make a new one for herself. Now, however, she is receiving troubling love letters from a person identified only as “M,” and it is up to investigators Arvo Hughes and Maria Hernandez of the LAPD Threat Management Unit to try to discover who “M” is. Soon, bodies are starting to pile up, and only Sarah’s blurred memory can identify the culprit…."No Cure for Love" is a stand-alone novel by Peter Robinson, best known for his Alan Banks series, and it contains all the strengths of that series: strong character development, intricate plotting and environments both physical and psychological that feel quite real. I’m really quite pleased to have stumbled upon Mr. Robinson’s work, albeit a few decades late - but that just gives me the pleasure of working my way through his back catalogue, such as this 1995 offering; recommended! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

In 1980s Hollywood, the beautiful star of a hit TV cop show is being sent strange letters. At first, Sarah Broughton dismisses the letters as the ramblings of a lonely fan. But when the letters take on a disturbing tone and Sarah discovers a body in the sand outside her Malibu beach house, the experts are brought in. Working as a detective in the LAPD Threat Management Unit, Arvo Hughes has seen it all before: stalkers, love obsessionals, erotomaniacs - willing to kill themselves and their supposed love objects over their devotion. He knows the language they use and the patterns they follow. But there is no pattern to follow here. Dealing with a highly unpredictable but extremely violent killer, Arvo feels certain Sarah's stalker must have met her before. But with the squeaky-clean star doing all she can to keep memories of a shady history locked away, Arvo must delve into her past himself. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

At first the fan letters seem just to be a bit over the top and Sarah does not take them very seriously, but the third has alarming verbal images, and comes at the same time as she discovers a dismembered body on the beach where she lives. Even so, Sarah is going home to England for Christmas ans is convinced that by the time she gets back the police will have found the murderer.
The LAPD detectives are convinced the clue to the identity of the stalker lies in Sarah's unsavoury past, but even so his final identity in the last few pages comes as a twist to the plot. ( )
