This YA novel takes place over Marin's Winter Break between her first two semesters at college and explores grief, memory, and friendship. I enjoyed maybe the feel of this book and the movement of the writing more than the plot/the book as a whole. Some of the best bits were the way LaCour captured the feeling of being on an empty college campus. I suspect I'll check out more by LaCour. ( ![]() Another melodramatic teen book. Oh, but this not your typical melodramatic teen book. The book starts with Marin who is staying at college over Christmas break because she doesn't have a home ... or at least doesn't want to return to where she came from. Through flashbacks, slowly the story unravels to find out she walked away from her past life and a secret about her grandfather. I could easily connect to someone who wants to run away ....and I can see why people would identify with Marin. Still, I think the main star of the story is the story. Beautifully woven with thought and thoughtfulness. Rips your heart apart ... and then puts it back together. Phenomenal! Broke my heart, loved it! I started in writing a big long review for this book but then deleted it all because I stopped being able to distinguish between what the book was trying to make me feel and what was my own projected feelings (about the holidays, the west coast, winter, college, relationships, the loss of a grandparent, among other things). Most of the actual events in the book werent even directly relatable to me they just brought out a lot of feelings. Basically this book is well written and I would recommend it as a emotional and engaging read even if I personally had a weird time with it. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
