brief text; marvels of snow/beauty of it all - "oh!" ( )

Oh! A cute story where animals and children come together to play in the snow. It is a short read, that can help children learn about animals and the things that animals do. ( )

So simple it would probably work as well or better if it were a board book. I can more easily imagine a tot spending time looking at this herself, rather than a family reading it aloud.

It would work pretty well for a family that likes to spend time talking about what they're reading, though, as you could relate your own experiences to those of the characters. Remember when we...?"" ( )

After a night's snowfall, everybody wants to play outside! Each creature is introduced with the same phrase, paired with a repeated sound, and described with three words: "The squirrel wants to play. Skitter, skitter, skitter, quick gray squirrel." (Why do the children have to be fat? For me that verse hits the wrong note, and I might substitute "fun bouncy children.") At the end, when playtime is over, readers have a chance to say good-bye to the creatures they met.

Song pairing: "Snow Is Falling All Around" (to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")

We live in New Orleans where we don't get any snow. This is a good book to show students how children and animals play in the snow. ( )
