Christian Nonfiction. Religion & Spirituality. Self-Improvement. Nonfiction. When someone we love is grieving, we want to be there. But it's easy to feel paralyzed, worried that we might say or do the wrong thing. Nancy Guthrie has personal experience dealing with pain and knows what words of encouragement are helpful and what words are harmful. Drawing from her own life experiences-including the loss of two young children-Guthrie has written this helpful resource for Christians who want to be better friends to those who are suffering. In this straightforward and practical book, Nancy Guthrie provides us with the insight we need to confidently interact with grieving people. Drawing upon the input of hundreds of grieving people, as well as her own experience of grief, Nancy offers specifics on what to say and what not to say, and what to do and what to avoid. Tackling touchy topics like talking about heaven, navigating interactions on social media, and more, this book will equip readers to support those who are grieving with wisdom and love.

I appreciate the author's honesty and accuracy in describing this subject. I have known closed friends who have experienced intense grief. When I, personally, experienced intense grief, I realized that I had had no idea what those friends were going through - nor could I have known. As I read this book, I found myself agreeing with or relating to so much that was written. ( )

With admiration and appreciation, I dedicate this book to the thousands of GriefShare facilitators in churches around the country who, week by week, meet with grieving people who are trying to navigate their way through the hardest and darkest place they've ever been. Each of you could write a book like this yourself, because you have heard so many people lament the sorrow that was added to their sorrow by those who didn't know better, as well as the comfort provided by those who had the courage to reach out. Thank you for listening to their stories, giving them a safe place to voice their lingering questions, painful regrets, and aching loneliness, even as you point them toward the healing to be found in Christ.
