The first three quarters of this book outline a straight-forward strategy to ramp up positive interactions with children, while simultaneously removing the emotional energy from dealing with misbehavior. As a parent with a child who craves emotional energy, positive or negative, Mr. Glasser's theory and solutions makes a lot of sense. I'm committing to put his solutions into play and see what happens. The last part of the book bogs down in philosophical conclusions that meander and was less helpful. ( )
Provides therapists, parents and teachers an absolutely clear understanding of how a challenging child really responds to normal ways of parenting and why traditional methods actually make the situation worse. It also provides a powerful set of strategies designed specifically to turn the challenging child around to a new pattern of success. Using this approach, it is easy to shift the difficult child to being a cooperative child who uses his or her intensity in entirely positive and creative ways.
