Henry's dad read him a bedtime story and tucked Henry in for bed. Henry notices a dragon that looks like a dragon on his wall. He ran to his parents and they tell him he has a good imagination. They look outside and in his room and there was no dragon. That night he slept with his parents. The next day Henry straps his sword to his waist and grabs yarn and goes outside to build a dragon trap. That night he tucks his sword under his pillow. He hears a noise and sees the shadow again. He gets his parents to check outside again but this time his dad yells help I'm stuck. Mrs. Rabbit yells O my the dragon got him. Mom and Henry run into the woods and discover the dad stuck in Henry's trap. Dad says no more dragon talk- go to bed! When Henry got to his room he notices the shadow looks like his hat hanging on his bedpost. All that time it was his hat. So he takes a flashlight and his hat to living room and projects the shadow on the wall. Henry's mom says that a dragon shadow and Henry tells her what an imagination you have! This story is an example of what may happen if a bedtime story is about something scary, like a dragon. Bedtime stories lead people to dream about the story itself. I recommend this book to grades K-3 and I would do some shadows on the walls with the class as an activity. ( )

Summary: This story is about a young rabbit that believed that dragons were real after his father read him a story about one before bed one night. He was convinced there was a dragon outside his bedroom. After sending his parents outside twice to look for them and one time getting his dad trapped in a dragon trap that his dad made. He went back inside his room and thought he see a dragon in there it ended up only being his ball cap. So he went and showed his parents that he wasn’t so crazy and they ended up thinking that the shadow of his cap looked like a dragon.

Personal reflection: When we are kids we have such imagination. Things we are told we believe no matter how crazy the stories are. Children’s brains are so open to the ideas and scenarios they are presented with. Even if they are told something isn’t real they still may choose to believe in it.

Classroom Extension Ideas: I would like to get a picture of a dragon and have the children paint it with water color or something like using colored construction paper. I would have them cut our different parts of the dragon and glue all of them together. I would also have them tell me about their craziest dream they have ever had or write it down in a story.

This is a story about a rabbit named Henry who is afraid of dragons. Everynight he sees a shadow on his wall and he thinks it is a dragon. He then decides to build a dragon trap and ends up catching his dad in the trap. Henry soon discovers that the dragon he sees in his room is nothing more then his hat.
I like this book because it shows how your imagination can get away. I would use this to teach the children that sometimes things are not what they seem.
