I might be biased because I love Christmas and the holidays and the togetherness it brings, but I enjoyed this story so much. I love the setting, and that the little grandchildren curl up to their grandfather, awaiting a story of his best Christmas. I think it creates a feeling of home and warmth for the reader, almost as if they can feel themselves there, with the fireplace burning, the cold air outside, and the sound of a tea kettle in the kitchen. I think the story that the grandfather tells is so touching, and the way that the author uses him to tell the children as opposed to just telling us the story, really makes a huge difference in how the reader feels it. ( ) Christmas in the Trenches is based on a true story about the Christmas Truce that took place between the German and the British troops. In the beginning of the story, the children and grandpaw are talking about their favorite Christmas memories and Grandpa tells his favorite memory, Christmas in the Trenches. We learn that both the Germans and the British sing Christmas songs back and forth from their posts and for one night, they are friends. The illustrations are wonderful in this story and really paints a clear picture of what took place on that Christmas night in 1914. Christmas in the Trenches tells a story about a grandfather's experiences during World War I. He tells his grandchildren that his Christmas during the War was his favorite Christmas of all time. On Christmas, the Germans and the Americans took a break from their trench warfare and came out to No Man's land to celebrate the holiday. This book highlights the commonality between men. No matter what differences we all have, deep down we still have things in common. The book also served to humanize the War. The men who fought for their countries we real people, not monsters. Sometimes we do not appreciate the things that we have until it is too late. The grandpa shared an inspiring story to his grand children. The message was that no matter what the situation is, we should all have love and forgiveness. It is not always about the wars and fighting. We should bring more peace to the table instead of arguments and fighting. Enjoy the loving moments. Christmas in the Trenches is a story about a grandfather sharing his favorite Christmas story with his grandchildren. It was during World War I when the German and British soldiers called a truce for Christmas day, and all the soldiers came out of the trenches to peacefully celebrate together. They shared stories about the loved ones back home and played ball together. This story showed how similar we all are even if we are fighting on different sides of the battlefield. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
