Ryan Keller had it all when he came out in high school; accepting parents, friends and his own credit line for J. Crew. His cocky attitude and good looks got him what he wanted, including samples off the man meat buffet. Then he found his favorite dessert, Brandon. But Brandon wasnt sending out a rainbow vibe so Ryan was sent to the land that crushes dread, the friend zone. Brandon Ford was buried so deep down in the closet that clothes from the seventies had a better chance of coming out. His anxieties of acting on his desires could keep a therapist entertained for hours. Even though he did his best to build his emotions out of bricks, it was no use against Ryans charms. Follow Ryan and Brandons relationship from high school, to college and beyond to find out if they will be tied together.Co Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

Okay, enough with the fromage talk.
So the story sounded funny and, yeah, it had some laugh-out-loud scenes. Overall, though, it was just too New Adult for my taste. The story started out with the guys about to graduate from high school and then it moved on to them in college. This took up most of the book before it finally jumped forward twelve years when the guys met up again. From the book blurb I really expected the story to focus on when they met up again and I expected their earlier time together to be a much shorter portion of the book. I'm not a fan of the new adult genre and this book is a perfect example of what I hate most about it: ridiculously immature characters who invariably end up messing things up for stupid-ass reasons like failure to communicate. Also known as misunderstandings made by tstl characters.
The characters, ah, what can I say about the characters. Ryan's chapters were funny but his character was such a douche nozzle it sort of took away some of the hilarity. He was self-absorbed for three-quarters of the book and for the rest I thought he came across as a bit of a pussy. Of course, that just may be because our formerly shy, unsure Brandon spent the end of the book showing off just how self-assured and dominate he turned out. Ryan sort of faded into the background a bit when Brandon started going all Alpha on his ass. Then we had Ryan's friend, Moxie, whose lady bits perfectly framed Brandon's surprised face when he and Ryan saw each other for the first time in twelve years. I swear, Moxie could have been a funny character if her vocabulary had not read like every drunken sailor cliché. She was just too obnoxious to find endearing.
What I did enjoy was Ryan's family. Completely over-the-top characters, but I loved them. Ryan's dad, who offered to buy him a subscription to a gay porn website. Ryan's mom, who enthusiastically fist pumped the air when she won the "When Will Ryan Come Out" pool his family had started. His sister, who wanted to pick out dresses for him (don't worry, no cross-dressing for Ryan). But my all-time favorite character was Ryan's grandpa, who, when told Brandon was not Ryan's boyfriend, responded with, "Hmm, too bad. He's cute, and he looks like a good bottom."
I read this through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. This right here is a good example of one of the reasons KU works for me: I was looking forward to the release of this book based in the blurb but I wasn't sure if I would actually buy it. I know curiosity would have eventually had me buying it and I would have really regretted spending money on it. With KU I was able to satisfy my curiosity with no additional money spent. (
