"Click-Clack Waddle Dot Dewey Dew from Planet Eight Hundred Seventy-Two Point Nine does not want to go to school--not on his planet, and definitely not on Planet Earth at Mrs. Brightsun's School for Little Learners. Everything on Earth is different. His clothes don't fit right, his classmates don't look like him, and even Earth noises sound weird. Dewey, an alien, is about to start school for the first time. Not just any school, school on EARTH! When he begins, he is nervous and confused because everything around him is so different and confusing, even the students! However, he ends up making a friend and realizes that maybe it is not so bad after all! This is a perfect book to read to students in the beginning of the school year, because although no one is an alien, everyone can relate to the nervousness of the first day! It shows the silly and also serious side of Dewey and really depicts what the first day of school feels like from the inside! The only thing I did not particularly like about the book is that sometimes it was written in "alien" language, which was a good idea but can also be confusing to younger kids who are just learning how to comprehend what they are reading! This book is about an alien named Dewey who must attend a new school- a school on Planet Earth. Dewey is not looking forward to starting school. When he arrives, he is introduced to all of these new and confusing things, but things don't turn out so bad after all. Time for Earth School, Dewey Dew is a cute book with plenty of silly words that is sure to have young children amused. ( )

This book is about Dewey Dew, a student from another planet coming to earth for his first day of school. He is nervous because he is so different from the earth children but ends up making a friend and having a great day!

This book is SO CUTE! I love Dewey Dew and I think he is just too cute. I think kids would love the illustrations in this book, the made up alien words, and Dewey Dew just as much as I do! I also know this would be a great book to teach kids about how everyone is different and how they should be like J.J. Burgdorf Havermeier the Third!

Summary: This book is about a little alien named Dewy who goes to earth school for the first time. He is really scared and thinks that everything is so different on earth. He is very overwhelmed by all the changes and how different he is from everyone else. J.J. Havermeir the Third, a boy in the class, asks him to stand in line with him, and this made him happy. Dewey ended up having a great day at school.
Genre: This book is fantasy because the events in the story cannot actually happen. The author makes the reader think that aliens can really go to school with humans on earth. She does this by making the story consistent and by creating a different language that the aliens use. It is not super different then english and isn't used the whole time, so the book is still easy to read.
Medium: colored pencil
Age Appropriateness: primary
Use in a classroom: This book could be used to help students understand what it may be like if there were a new student in their classroom. It gives them the perspective of Dewy who is different then the rest of his class, and this could show students what it may feel like for someone who is from a different culture or area. You could have them share about different traditions or ways of life they have at home to show them that they are all different and have different ways of doing things. One could use J.J. Havermeir the Third as an example of what to do when there is someone who feels different and is different then you, include them!

Genre: Science Fiction
Age: Primary
Review: This story was about Dewey Dew, an alien who had to go to school on earth. He was afraid because he didn't fit in with the other students and everything was different to him. At the end, a little boy came over and they began to play. Dewey Dew decided that school on earth probably wouldn't be so bad after all. This is science fiction because it was about an alien from another planet coming to earth.
Comment on use: This could be used in the classroom to explain how some students may feel coming to a new school. It could also be used to discuss how we should include everyone, even if they are different from us.
Media: Pencil, watercolor and digital media ( )
