The Baby on the Way is about a grandmother telling her grandson about the day she was born. This story shows children that adults were once babies too, just like them. Often times children think that adults were always adults, and children even think that adults are hundreds of years old. I think this story can bring it to children's attention that yes, everyone was once a baby.
Throughout the story, I loved how to illustrations switched from the present to the past. I thought that was really cool, and it could lead to a good discussion with children as to why the illustrator did that.
At the end of the story the grandmother told the little boy that he has a story of how he was born too, and that he could pass that story on to his grandchildren when he gets older. I think this story also shows that stories can be passed down from generation to generation, and it is all interesting to hear because no two birth stories are alike. ( )

This book is about a little boy named Jamal, who wanted to know if his grandma was ever a baby. His grandma told him that she was once a baby on the way, and told him the story of how she was born. In the story, her sister told their Aunt Nanny to come deliver the baby, and her 9 older siblings all waited with her daddy until she was born. Jamal then asks if anyone will ever ask HIM if he was a baby, and his grandma tells him the story of how he was born so that he could tell it when he was a grandpa.

The illustrations in the book are just warming. I think this is a would be a great choice to introduce students to explaining old folktales and how they are told. ( )

Inspiring book for children to give them a sense of empowerment and welcoming for a new baby in the family. Using this book as a tool to make understand that they were once a baby on the way. This book opens the door for questions about being a baby or welcoming a new one. ( )
