Pig on the Titanic tells the story of a musical French pig named Maxixe and her owner Edith Rosenbaum. Edith was given the pig as a gift from her mother before she boarded the Titanic. Maxixe was her good luck charm. Edith carried Maxixe everywhere she went on the ship. When the ship struck an iceberg, Edith did not panic because she had Maxixe. Edith told the sailors to worry about other women and children before her since she had Maxixe. The sailors mistook Maxixe as a baby and threw her into a lifeboat. Edith jumped in after Maxixe. The children were scared so Edith wound Maxixe's tail and she played music. The children smiled and laughed. Eventually, they were rescued and everyone praised Maxixe as being a hero. The theme of this story is companionship. Although Maxixe is not a real pig, she brought happiness to everyone she met. When disaster struck, Maxixe was there to calm everyone down. The setting is on the Titanic. Without the Titanic, Edith would not have been given Maxixe. This shows how the setting is crucial to the storyline.
