Hugely readable, very funny and wonderfully inventive in both its language and its storytelling. A brilliant children's book. This review contains 3 parts: The cover, The Plot and The episodes. The Cover: The cover is good though Olaf on the spine shouldn't be in costume since he wasn't really in disguise. The story: Copying and pasting from my other review lol. First of all, I missed the world alot and its nice to come back to. Now onto the copy and pasting. These poor kids!! Its not reverse psychology, the book really is a bad beginning, misfortune after misfortune befalls these poor kids, I like them all in their own way, sometimes Sunny when she talks about stuff, I'm just like, how do they know what she means. Snicket is a terrific writer, while chronicling their misfortunes, he drops hints about his own past, which may coincide with the Baudelaires Mother... The Episodes: I thought the 2 episodes did this book justice and focused on lots of details though did not include the wart faced man. It was like the book came to life and better and more accurate then the movie. "If you are interested in stories with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book. In this book, not only is there no happy ending, there is no happy beginning and very few happy things in the middle. This is because not very many happy things happened in the lives of the three Baudelaire youngsters. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire were intelligent children, and they were charming, and resourceful, and had pleasant facial features, but they were extremely unlucky, and most everything that happened to them was rife with misfortune, misery, and despair. I'm sorry to tell you this but that is how the story goes."- The starting paragraph. These poor kids!! Its not reverse psychology, the book really is a bad beginning, misfortune after misfortune befalls these poor kids, I like them all in their own way, sometimes Sunny when she talks about stuff, I'm just like, how do they know what she means. Snicket is a terrific writer, while chronicling their misfortunes, he drops hints about his own past, which may coincide with the Baudelaires Mother.... I didn't feel a strong connection to story. Felt it was irritating. So will probably not read other books in series. But you never can be sure. Appartiene alle SerieÈ contenuto inHa ispiratoHa come supplemento
After the sudden death of their parents, the three Baudelaire children must depend on each other and their wits when it turns out that the distant relative who is appointed their guardian is determined to use any means necessary to get their fortune. This book didn't get me completely. It's such a shame, I really wanted to like it!! But I think I'll try to read the rest of this series, too :) (
