When a shooting star grants Sam a million wishes (as long as they are logically possible) he thinks that he will be able to make his life better at his new school--but he soon learns that you have to be very careful, because wishes can have unexpected consequences.

My children and I found this book to be quite entertaining and gloriously hilarious. We've listened to the audio book 3 times already. ( )

We got the audiobook of this story. I loved the narrator's British voice. I wasn't expecting it. It intrigued my kids. They were rapt. The pronunciations of certain words made them ask questions and even giggle. Overall it's a funny story about a kid who gets a bunch of wishes. What would you wish for?

It looks like Brandon Robshaw has a similar book in the works for OLDER teens called "The Infinite Powers of Adam Gowers" that he is trying to crowdfund (which has some reported...sexiness in it). It's about an older teenager with an infinite number of wishes (yeah, what would an older teen wish for... yikes!). I'm sure my older child will be all over that when it comes out, but I might have to read it first. ( )

Early Reviewer Audiobook:

Classic "grass is always greener" or "be careful what you wish for" tale. Done just "OK" here.

The story was OK but ticked too many pet peeves for me (social cliches).

The narration was done, by the author, well in some spots (super hero battle scene moving from German to English) terribly in others (the beginning bully scene, screeching so loud had to turn down the volume).

All in all, two stars from me. ( )

I have a feeling this book would go over really well with its intended age group (of which I am not a part). It's fun and well read. It did get rather predictable after a while, but it was still entertaining. ( )

Big Wish by Brandon Robshaw
I really enjoyed this juvenile fiction audio book. It is another take on wish granting stories that I remember from my own childhood (like in Aladdin). Sam, an 11-year-old boy and the main character, wishes upon a shooting star and receives a million wishes. Then Sam begins his wishing. He goes about wishing for fun, hilarious stuff like giant hamburgers, shrinking to the size of an ant, and creating his own personal supervillain to fight. Then he realizes that he can put his wishes to good use and starts wishing for other people. He wishes that his best friend’s dad will heal and for his own dad to receive a promotion at work. I love the fact that the author makes Sam realize that having everything in life by just a wish isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. In the end he solves the dilemma of his wishes. This will be a very educational and thought provoking book for children ages 9-12. I highly recommend this book not only as a good read, but as a learning experience that will require children to use their critical thinking skills. ( )
