"Caitlin has never had a real boyfriend before. When she starts seeing Blade, she throws herself into the relationship with fervor. She ignores her friends who warn her that Blade may be a phony and that she is taking the whole thing too seriously. Caitlin is smitten. She doesn't care if she loses her friends. All she wants is Blade. When Caitlin sees Blade with another girl, she completely loses it. She snaps. Everything goes red. When she comes back to her senses, she realizes that Blade is dead--and she has killed him. But if Blade is dead, how is he staring at her across a crowded party?"--… (altro)

WHAT DID I JUST SUBJECT MYSELF TO.

OH GOD.

OK.

Let's do this.

Worst. Fear Street. Ever. There's over 150 books in the series and off shoots. So that's saying something. ( )

I received a copy of this book free from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Fear Street #154

Ooof. That twist was a clunker.

'The Dead Boyfriend' introduces us to Caitlyn Donnelly, who's passion is writing in her diary. Lucky for us readers Caitlyn's starting a new volume so we get caught up on all the pertinent information like how pretty she thinks she is and her friends and how her boyfriend Blade is dead....You know, catch-up.

We're taken back to witness the unbelievable hotness that is Blade Hampton and how Caitlyn got together with him. There's a bit of a scene when Deena Fear, a spooky goth girl Caitlyn and her friends Julie and Miranda have seen around, claims that she "saw him first". Caitlyn is eventually intimidated into working with Deena on her Evil Plan and it's just...it's stupid and not in a fun way. It just makes no sense.

The book is riddled with a few more continuity kerfuffles, but there's an in-text explanation for everything. It's not "a wizard did it.", but it's pretty close. I would describe those fuck-ups as hints about the twist, but that would be giving Stine waaay too much credit as I doubt he realized what he was doing. Still, I won't completely zero out my rating.

I've been an R. L. Stine fan for many years so I was thrilled when I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. It's been years since I last read one. However, this book brought back a nostalgia of reading his books when I was younger. I dived right into this novel and let it suck me into the crazy plot. I devoured this book in 2 days. In Stine fashion this book delivers suspense, thrill, plot twists and an unexpected ending. ( )

I read this book in two sittings. I am a sucker for R.L. Stine. It just reminds me of my child hood. You never saw me without one of his books. I had trouble putting the book down the first night. I wanted to know what was going to happen. When I started it the second night I already had an idea what was going to happen in the book, and I was right. This book was OK, but I feel like it lacked a little bit of R.L. Stine-ness. Will always read his books, but this one was a bit disappointing. ( )
