This watershed publication of the best of Lovecraft's stories was the first volumn issued by the famed publisher, August Derleth under the Arkham House Imprint. Through Arkham House, Derleth would go on to see that many of the important authors of the pulp era (Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, and many more) would remain in print. He also had a knack for identifying and publishing for the first time in book form many authors who would later achieve fame. Among the authors to be first published by Arkham House are Ray Bradbury, Fritz Leiber, Ramsey Campbell and Greg Bear. ( )
