In downtown Chicago, a young woman named Esther Vaughan disappears from her apartment without a trace. A haunting letter addressed to My Dearest is the only clue, leaving her friend and roommate Quinn to wonder, who is Esther really? And where did she go? Meanwhile, in a small lake town an hour outside of the city, a mysterious woman appears in the quiet coffee shop where eighteen-year-old Alex Gallo works as a dish washer. He is immediately drawn to her, but what starts as an innocent crush quickly spirals into something deeper and darker. As Quinn searches for answers about Esther and Alex is drawn further under Pearl's spell, master of suspense Mary Kubica takes readers on a taut and twisted thrill ride that builds to a stunning conclusion and shows that no matter how fast and far we run, the past always catches up.… (altro)

Quinn’s roommate, Esther is missing. As Quinn investigates she comes to believe Esther was trying to kill her. Meanwhile, Alex living in another state, meets a mysterious girl, who won’t tell him much about herself. The parallel stories finally converge and Esther is found with the help of Quinn’s friend. This is an interesting psychological thriller with a surprise ending.
This did take a while to get into and the story seems unrelated until you get into it. This was not her best book. I did like the ending. Some what unbelievable. ( )

Loved this once I was able to really get into it. I wasn't surprised by the ending, but I feel it was a bit abrupt. ( )

Not a fan of this one. Loved the Good Girl. ( )

This one was a re-read from many years ago, since I ran out of audiobooks and needed something available now on Overdrive! Some passages were familiar, but for the most part I couldn’t remember anything about the story.

The story is told from two completely separate points of view: Alex’s and Quinn’s. They’re in entirely different towns. At times it felt like the two stories had almost nothing to do with each other, but they do come together in a satisfying spree of question-answering at the end.

Overall, Don’t You Cry is a reasonably enjoyable thriller. If you liked The Good Girl, you will certainly like this one too.

Quinn, Esther, Alex, Genevieve, Ingrid...so many characters, all essential to the plot. Unfortunately, Quinn, who wasn't written as a particularly likeable character, dominates the story line. I felt manipulated as a reader, that the author was thinking movie or sequel instead of best possible. The plot is intriguing. The storytelling device of two separate narrators is awkward. Overall, disappointed, it could have been a better book. ( )
