"Defense lawyer Andy Carpenter spends as much time as he can working on his true passion, the Tara Foundation, the dog rescue organization he runs. Lately, Andy has been especially involved in a county prison program where inmates help train dogs the Tara Foundation has rescued to make them more adoptable, benefiting both the dogs and the prisoners. One of the prisoners Andy has been working with is Brian Atkins, who has 18 months left on a 5-year term for fraud. Brian has been helping to train Boomer, an adorable fox terrier the Tara Foundation rescued from a neglectful owner. Brian and Boomer are clearly a terrific match. In fact, Andy hopes that Brian will adopt Boomer himself, once his sentence is up. But one day, Andy arrives at the prison to discover that Brian has used Boomer to make an ingenious escape, and man and dog are both in the wind. The next day, the man on whose testimony Brian was convicted is found murdered. Brian is caught and arrested for the crime, though he forcefully protests his innocence. Suddenly, Andy finds himself with a new client in Brian and a new dog in Boomer. And as he starts to dig deeper into the murder and the events leading up to it, Andy realizes he might be putting them all in far more danger than anyone had realized"--… (altro)

The Andy Carpenter series is a continual escape system for the reader. Having charters continue in his books is just plain rewarding, even as he has to remind possible new readers who everyone is. Yes, you don't get to avoid horrible situations with all kinds of blood and death in his books but Andy manages to work his way through it for the reader. How can you NOT like a David Rosenfelt book?? He has a wonderful talent for story telling. ( )

Read most any review of this series and it would probably fit this one just as well. But somehow, the formula hasn't gotten stale so far. Whenever I'm in the mood for a light, interesting, and humorous story with a happy ending, I know I can count on Andy Carpenter and the gang. And then there's Grover Gardner, the narrator, who is Andy Carpenter to me. I don't think I could listen to a different narrator unless I wait at least a year or two. ( )

"Outfoxed" seemed to be a bit deeper than the usual Andy Carpenter book. I like the way the series is going. ( )

The Andy Carpenter series of books by author David Rosenfelt are always a satisfying and quick read. I got drawn to the books initially because they take place in the N.Y. / N.J metropolitan area I'm familiar with, and I appreciate the humor and personality of the main character, lawyer Andy Carpenter. In this book, the 14th in the series I believe, part-time lawyer and full-time dog lover Andy Carpenter takes on a case to clear a prison escapee of a double murder charge. It involves some computer software creators plus a few North Jersey mobsters, and Andy comes through in the courtroom like Perry Mason of 1950's TV. ( )

law-enforcement, lawyers, situational-humor, snark-fest, verbal-humor, murder, murder-investigation, mobsters, computer-nerd, family-dynamics, friendship, framed, dogs*****

Take a wisemouthed lawyer who can afford to take semi retirement by only representing innocent clients while supporting an animal shelter, add in that his wife is no longer law enforcement but works as his private investigator and more and you have the baseline for this convoluted mystery. There are many other people who help Andy find out what the truth really is and make it courtroom admissible. I was disappointed in the prosecutions evidence, but it made for a much better sleuthing opportunity to prove the client's case (as well as some other stuff). Lots of twists and turns in the plot and the characters certainly are, but there's no need for spoilers or an attempt at a summary. I found it to be a real brain grabber and was surprised to find that it is the most recent in a series! At no time does the reader feel lost or as if missing background info.
Grover Gardner narrates this complicated snarkfest very well! ( )
