"The zoo isn't what it used to be. It's run down, and Hippo hardly ever gets any visitors. So he decides to set off for the outside with his friend Red Panda. To make it in the human world, Hippo will have to become a Hippopotamister: he'll have to act like a human, get a job, and wear a hat as a disguise. He's a good employee, whether he's a construction worker, a hair stylist, or a sous chef. But what he really needs is a job where he can be himself"--Amazon.com.… (altro)

This one has all the checkmarks for a fantastic graphic novel for very early readers - simple yet engaging story, two delightful main characters, repetition, appealing artwork and big open panels, a powerful yet sweet message and a ton of heart. Super. ( )

A great beginning graphic novel for kids because the text is easy to follow. Bright illustrations! ( )

Hippopotamister lived in the zoo. It was falling apart. The animals were all in bad shape, no energy, dirty teeth and hair, and the habitats were falling apart. Red Panda left and went to live with the humans. Every month he came back and told Hippopotamus about the great jobs he had. Hippo decided to go live with the humans and he was told to change his name to Hippopotamister. He worked all kinds of jobs with Red Panda such as construction, hair salon, chef and more. Red Panda was bad at all the jobs, but Hippopotamister was great at all the jobs he tried. He finally decided he wanted to go back to the zoo. When he got back he realized that he could fix things up and take care of the animals and the books. A happy ending to a book where the grass is always greener on the other side. Another message that you can take from this book is if you see a problem, you can take steps to fix it if you try. The illustrations were adorable. This is a graphic novel that young children will love.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. ( )

This is a story about a hippo and a red fox who search all over the city for the perfect job. They try to be construction workers, musicians, athletes, plumbers, lifeguards, fisherman, fireman and paleontologists but for some reason none of these jobs are quite right. Eventually the work together to transform their run down zoo into some place everyone wants to visit.
