I'm here because of the anime.

Plot: An eccentric magus purchases a girl at an auction. An auction. Why? So, she can be his apprentice. Turns out she's also a Slay Vega, a rare human who, not only has the Sight, but somewhat like a magical lightning rod and battery.

Also, don't you dare harm even a hair on his puppy.

Volume 2 adds more questions to the narrative: 1) Are there good wizards? 2) What is the background story of the villain who is a baby-faced, insane mad scientist type?

Art: I am a bit spoilt with Arina Tanemura with her full backgrounds, but Mahoutsukai no Yome's art is okay particularly if it's in full color (Although, come one, full color? Who doesn't like full color more than black and white? Don't @ me). Chibi characters are always A+.

Pacing: I want to say it's progressing at a normal pace; but like what I felt when I watched the anime, it was slow for me... well, not slow per se, but there's a sense of detachment that always comes with being otherworldly - a quietness.

Overall: If I'm going to describe and compare this with other materials I've read, the words I will use are: whimsical, otherworldly, nostalgic. ( )

This is the second book in the Ancient Magus Bride series and I enjoyed it a ton. I continue to love the characters, world, illustration, and story in this series.

Chise has finally been able to use her magical powers to disperse the Blight but in doing so she learns of the sad history that caused the Blight. Using that much magic power causes her to collapse and she overhears Thorn talking about how sleigh beggy’s have a very short life span. After this Thorn and Chise are called to a graveyard to deal with rumors of a scary black dog.

The illustration in this manga series is amazing. I am also very impressed with the easy to love characters, creative world and storyline. A lot happens in this volume and it remains engaging and entertaining.

Overall this was another amazing volume in the Ancient Magus Bride series. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite manga series. I would recommend to those who enjoy fantasy manga. ( )
