Where Att inte vilja se, the previous book in the series, focused on the Lauritz's war and unwillingness to see what was actually going on, this one is his daughter's Johanne's war, working in Norwegian resistance and British and Swedish intelligence and experiencing various nastiness that his father in the previous book would never had imagined. I really enjoyed the focus on the women and the difficult things they did during the war. Another good book in the Great War-series, this time from the Lauritzen daughters's point of view. A well told story, that gave me goose bumps at a certain point. Totally relatable, since I'm female, read a lot about the war here and heared some first hand stories as well. Very interesting that the tole that women played in the Scandinavian resistance gets a central spot in this book. It is cery readable despite the heavy theme and I absolutely recommend it. Hopefully this is not the end of the series. I'd love to read at least one more book, where the rest of the century is captured and told how the one brother and all the children of the three Lauritzens are faring after the war. Blå Stjärnan is also a book where most of the proponents are female which is not usual at all in Guillou's books. I will not really rate how well he handles it, but he clearly throws a lot of dirt on men taking the credit for joint (at best) accomplishments. Something that keeps happening through the history.
Actually, I would have suspected that a female in Johanna Lauritzen's position would have had it even harder. She has supportive (male) and fair people around her.
The story you ask? Johanna is involved with both the Norwegian resistance and the British SOE and other spying organizations. We're back at an Hamilton type book and Jan Guillou knows how to write those. ( )
