( ) tmph | Sep 13, 2020 | Whilst in writing order Small Wars comes in after the 19th novel, Personal, by chronology it actually takes place before the first novel of the series, and after the short story Deep Down. It takes place in 1989, in Georgia. It's a short investigation lead by Reacher into an execution on a lonely country road. Whilst we the reader are aware from the get go of who the shooter is, the plot goes through the machinations of investigation for Reacher to come up with the shooter and his reasoning by the close of the novel. It's a reasonable addition to the series, although I thought it presented Joe Reacher in a manner contradictory to Killing Floor which seemed to imply he wasn't too good with hands on investigation where as here he's out getting his hands dirty handling himself in a seemingly capable manner.
