How I have had this for almost 5 years but never read it is beyond me! This was so good. Ford is a Republican congressman and he has what he thinks is an anonymous hook up with the Democratic President's son. They both promise discretion, but one night doesn't seem like enough. Ford finds freedom in being with Trevor, and Trevor finds someone who shows him that loving relationships exist and are worth fighting for. Luckily, however, there was no big need to "fight" for it. Yes, Ford had a lot of fear coming out due to family relations and possible career damage, but seeing him put Trevor first was so heartwarming. The best part was that he didn't do it because he thought he had to, it was because he wanted to and because family always comes before everything else. When Trevor was included in that, my heart melted. I loved how their relationship just seemed to blossom naturally without them really angsting over it or fighting it. I loved this and I loved Trevor and Ford. Strange Bedfellows by Cardeno C. is a very sweet yet scorching hot M/M romance. Set in the world of politics, the cynical son of a Democratic president and an earnest, idealistic Republican are surprised when their one night stand leads to a real relationship. Due to his parents' unconventional but lasting union, Trevor Moga knows what he wants and more importantly, what he doesn't want in a marriage. He is an out and proud, highly successful businessman who stays as far away from politics as he can, so he is absolutely stunned when he cannot stop thinking about Ford Hollingsworth, an ultra conservative, deeply closeted congressman. Although he is not too happy about Ford's need for secrecy, he continues to see Ford as often as possible. As the months go by and his feelings for Ford deepen, Trevor finds himself rethinking his long held beliefs about his parents' marriage and this new perspective leads him to a surprising decision after an unexpected career opportunity comes Ford's way. Ford is deeply religious and he has struggled to reconcile his sexuality with his religious teachings for most of his life. It is not until after he meets Trevor that he begins to believe that there is nothing "wrong" with being gay but he remains very reluctant to come out publicly or to his family. He is concerned about disappointing his parents and he also worries about the impact his sexuality will have on his career. Ford is a little naive but he is a sincere, honest politician who truly believes in the political system. The relationship between Ford and Trevor is an intriguing mix of seriously hot sex and sweet, tender moments. Trevor is the more sexually experienced of the two and he knows what he wants and likes and he isn't afraid to go after it. Ford is a little uptight but eager to explore his burgeoning sexuality and it does not take long for Trevor to loosen him up a bit. Strange Bedfellows by Cardeno C. is a delightfully angst free romance that fans of contemporary M/M fiction are sure to love. The plot is refreshingly unique and although the storyline touches on some potentially hot button topics such as religion and politics, these issues remain the in the background. There is plenty of sexual tension between Ford and Trevor and their sex scenes are are exquisitely detailed, deliciously filthy and quite plentiful. Love sneaks in when neither of them are looking and while there are obstacles for them to overcome on the way to happily ever after, these issues are resolved realistically without any necessary drama. This is a tale of the romance between two men from opposing backgrounds and beliefs. A chance hook up changes them in a forever way. Since the men and their families are in the spotlight, I worried there would be lots of underhanded behavior. I really appreciate how the characters were mostly mature in their actions. Trevor and Ford are obviously meant to be together and come off as a super sweet couple. I like this book, some parts more than others. I enjoy the way the Hollingsworth siblings still playfully bicker like children. Also, the author enforced the idea of family relationships in more than one way. Trevor's parents aren't monogamous, but they are 100% each other's best supporter. Being honest and open are major sticking points throughout. I recommend Strange Bedfellows to someone looking for a low-drama, thoughtful romance. ***Copy given in exchange for an honest review*** nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Bradford "Ford" Hollingsworth III is in the early stages of a bright career. He's a junior U.S. congressman whose senator (and former presidential candidate) father has created quite a legacy for him to follow in the Republican party. But he's keeping a secret that might just derail those plans: he's gay, something that's likely not going to go over well with the conservative base. But when a random one-night stand turns into a desire for something more, he's not sure just how long he can keep his secret hidden. And to complicate matters even more, the object of his affection is Trevor Moga, son of the current President--a Democrat, and someone who has done his best to stay out of politics. Can Ford find a way to have his career and Trevor? Or will he give that all up if it means happiness with someone he loves? And how will his family react when they learn the truth--both truths?
What a fun and interesting read! There are some definitely steamy moments, but the focus here is on the story and these two endearing and wonderful characters. One of things that I've found with Cardeno's novels is that I'm never disappointed with the characters, and this book is no exception. They are dynamic individuals, they are flawed in just the right ways, and there's never really a question of how their actions and motivations line up. And in this book, even the side characters pulled me in, as there's quite a cast here with Trevor's parents and Ford's larger family.
I'm not usually one for books with a political background--not that I'm particularly averse, it's just not where I go when I'm looking for a good read. But after reading this, I'm thinking maybe I need to give more of them a chance. This is great and I definitely recommend it. ( )
