I liked the message, implicit in the story here, that there needs to be a balance between more active, competitive activities and more contemplative, peaceful ones, in the play of young people. Sometimes you need to stop and smell the flowers, or play a game without worrying about who wins or loses. Recommended to anyone who enjoyed the first Duck & Goose story, or anyone looking for picture-books about friendship and the social dynamics of play. ( )

Cute little story that brings to light emotions that come up when friendship is put to the test. Great book for early elementary school children that can tend to get over-competitive in their need to play and be the best.
