Dr. Yarhouse demonstrates great care and balance in presenting the issues surrounding the transgender topic. It is readable, yet rigorous. Ultimately, he does not defend a particular point of view, but, focuses more on providing the tools needed for Christians to interact intelligently and respectfully with transgender individuals. This is less of a thesis and more of a toolbox. Overall, 4/5 stars. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
"Few topics are more contested today than gender identity. While the culture war rages over language, institutions and political allegiances, transgender individuals are often the ones who end up as casualties. Mark Yarhouse, an expert in sexual identity and therapy, challenges the church to rise above the political hostilities and listen to people's stories. In Understanding Gender Dysphoria, Yarhouse offers a Christian perspective on transgender issues that eschews simplistic answers and appreciates the psychological and theological complexity. The result is a book that engages the latest research while remaining pastorally sensitive to the experiences of each person. Yarhouse calls Christians to come alongside those on the margins and stand with them as they resolve their questions and concerns about gender identity. Understanding Gender Dysphoria is the book we need to navigate these stormy cultural waters."--Back cover. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

It doesn't really give much help on developing a theology of transgenderism. This isn't a fault with the book, but is not what it sets out to to do. I say this because I suspect many will come to it looking for help in formulating a theology. It is, however, a very helpful read, and one that will really benefit pastors in thinking about their pastoral response to this issue, which is becoming more and more prevalent.
