Yes, this is a sticker book, but it also offers a good deal of text. The format begins with about twenty pages of informative material, arranged into categories, with blank spots where particular stickers are meant to be affixed. For example, one of the two-page spreads introduces the good guys. The paragraph at the top describes the birds and the force, and beneath that are small blurbs of information to describe each bird (Yoda, Anakin, and so forth), with a dotted line connecting the bubble of text to the spot where a sticker belongs. Children are encouraged to flip through the collection of stickers at the back and find the matching sticker, then place it on the appropriate spot. Interspersed in these pages of narrative are illustrated pages that ask readers to create their own scene with extra stickers from the book. The stickers occupy about two-thirds of the book, and are placed at the back. They are arranged with the stickers pertaining to specific pages in the front, followed by a series of small square stickers, a repetition of the same stickers as the first batch, but these labeled as extra stickers that children can play with as they please, and another set of small square stickers.

The end result is that readers are presented with multiple ways of using their stickers. They can find and complete the narrative pages, a process of hunting and sorting, since the pictures are not arranged in the order of the pages and students have to actually look through them all to find the correct picture. Young readers can unleash their creativity and use the stickers to create their own scenes on the blank spreads. Finally, readers can take out the extra stickers and use them outside the book as they please. As far as sticker books go, this structure offers the most versatility I have seen. I am pleased that my daughter had a constructive way of using her stickers, and could still indulge in her normal past time of pressing as many stickers as she can on a single page and making art. Also, the illustrations in both the pages and the stickers are high quality, as I would expect from a DK book. Definitely seek out their Ultimate Sticker Collection series for children who like to play with stickers (and what kid doesn't?). If a child is furthermore a fan of the Angry Birds Star Wars game, like my daughter, this book is sure to bring smiles and joy. ( )
