It's 1976, and fourteen years ago, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the entire planet Earth and all its inhabitants were transported to a huge flat surface, extending for many millions of mile/kilometres in all directions. New worlds can be found further out by adventurous explorers. The story separately follows Yuri Gagarin, Carl Sagan, and a young woman colonist of the new worlds trying to make sense of the new universe. The path is dark and so is the ending. Memorable chills down the spine! ( )

Ehh. Humanity is transplanted to a huge world where lots of other species are transplanted to, too, and they're being subverted by a swarm intelligence. ( )

For a one-off novella, this was a fun trip. Combining the politics of the cold war era with the idea that humans are far, far from the most advanced life forms in the galaxy - it's grim, but it's fascinating. Glad to see it at the library. ( )

Its funny how novelettes and short stories end badly for the characters involved so much more often than novels. I suppose authors can get away with it more easily, since readers haven't invested quite as much time and energy into the characters. Very good work, though. ( )

Things change on a fateful day in 1962. The surface of Earth is moved to an immense platform in another galaxy in the far future. As increased gravity grounds missiles, and separated bymuch greater distances, the Cold War becomes irrelevant as the superpowers try to find where they are and why. It seems that other 'Earths' have been brought here as well. A chilling tale of humanity's ultimate failing. ( )
