In my opinion, I found the book to be a fun read. Firstly, the book incorporates writing that would assist in children’s development of phonemic awareness. This is done by the use of assonance and alliteration in the book; for example, “flitter, flotter, fluffy…”, “sieving shaking sieving…”, and “icky flicky licky…”. These repetitive sounds help children to differentiate between sounds and pick up on new ones. In addition, the words are written in a very visual way. Words are not written in standard straight line, left to right, format. Words often curve and flow with illustrations and written in colors corresponding with illustrations on the page. An example of this would be the words “IT’S POURING TIME!” written in white text with large font, curving with pouring milk out of a pitcher. And lastly, my prominent reasoning for liking this book is the fun aspect it provides. The story line is silly and imaginative- it expands on what is seen as a simple nursery rhyme. Take for example, “And here’s he sugar, ditzy sugar, oh so Glitzy oh so Glosy and we’re frisking while we’re whisking ‘til it’s flitter flotter fluffy. It’s whisking time!” The creative and imaginative vocabulary utilized by the author contributes to the fun. Words such as glitzy, glossy, and frisking. The main idea is to have fun.
