“I Yam a donkey” by Cece Bell is a funny picture book for students that are in first to fourth grade. In the book the Yam points out grammar errors that the donkey is making. The donkey sill does not understand what he is saying wrong. The words that are being said incorrectly are in bold and the words that the Yam fixes are in bold. For example, the donkey says “You IS a Yam,” and the Yam says “no, I AM a Yam.” This allows for the reader to recognize the importance of grammar with a side of humor. I would definitely have this book in my future classrooms. ( )

I yam a donkey is a picture book that talks about a donkey that has a disagreement with a yam. The yam help the donkey with his grammar in a funny way. The book is silly and helps children with English literacy. It can be good to introduce the book in 2nd -4th grade for all students. As a Spanish speaker i found the book funny and easy to follow and can see how a non English speaker can also find help in the book. I think the book is good to introduce grammar and to bring it back up with individual work. ( )

Silly book about grammar. A donkey and a yam have a debate about how to say, "I yam a donkey." The donkey has terrible grammar and the yam can't seem to make the donkey understand how to correctly say "I am a donkey." Very fun read aloud.
