The Last Four Days of Paddy Buckley was a satisfying read on many levels. Paddy Buckley is an undertaker and consequently the novel is filled with some really fascinating stories about what really goes on behind the scenes at funeral homes. Vincent, the leader of Dublin's mafia is a fascinating character. The scenes involving him were some of the most compelling. But the one problem I had with this novel was the whole idea of Paddy first falling for a grieving 60 year old widow Lucy. And then after she dies in "the act", and her 30 year old daughter Brigid arrives on the scene, he promptly falls madly in love with her, and they go at it like bunny rabbits. C'mon, really ? ( )

Not your usual fare by any means. Romance? Sure. Mystery? Not really. Suspense? Yes. Humor? Yes again. ( )

En toch, toch zat ik regelmatig te grinniken, en moest en zou ik het boek uitlezen. Hoewel het al snel duidelijk is en welke richting het verhaal ongeveer zal gaan lopen, (denk je) kwam het einde toch als een verrassing. En daarmee is een boek voor mij toch redelijk geslaagd. Knap als je dat als auteur kan, zeker gezien het feit dat ik heb dit boek in een voor mij persoonlijk zware tijd gelezen. ( )
