Puss in Boots is about a cat named Puss who is given to one of the millers three sons, Robin. Puss finds a coin and decides to but him some boots. Puss is a very clever cat. He tricks people into getting what he wants which is wealth and power. He impresses the King and saves a village from a nasty ogre. Robin goes on to marrying the Kings daughter and Puss becomes prime minister. Puss kept a magic feather and used its last bit of power to turn his boots to gold. In the end, the cat ended up being the best gift left to Robin in his fathers will.

Puss in Boots is folktale because of all the trickery that Puss plays. Everything Puss does has a purpose. He uses his cleverness to get what he wants. ( )

Puss in Boots is a great message to show that great cifnts come in small packages. The book follows a young boy given a cat after his father turns ill, his brother take everything and leave him with nothing. The cat turns out to be a miracle cat for the young boy. Clever cat makes this poor boy a wealthy and established man. ( )

Although this folk tale is sure to get the kids interested because of the main character, Puss, it is a bit difficult for young readers as the vocabulary may be above their reading level. I thought the illustrations were much more interesting than the writing as well. The story also seemed to influence trickery to get what you want in life, which doesn't seem to be a good lesson for children. The other two themes were more fitting for kids as it encouraged bravery and loyalty. ( )

The classic tale of Puss in Boots is retold by Lincoln Kirstein. Kirstein paints how the clever cat uses his intelligence and his master to climb the ranks of society, to finally find himself on top of it all. I'm really not sure why this is nonfiction. ( )

The story of Puss in Boots is one of a smart cat helping his master improve his life. Originally, Puss was just a mouser, given to the youngest boy of three as his inheritance. Puss asked the boy to bring him to buy boots and a linen bag, which the boy did without asking any questions. In reward, the clever Puss thought up a way to help his master raise his class and marry well. He uses the bag to catch rabbits to bring to the King and Queen. He did this so they will remember the name Marquis of Carabas. He then stopped the royal coach so the princess would see him. Puss and his master came across a town that was starving thanks to a greedy ogre. Seeing opportunity here, Puss decides that he will trick and kill the ogre to free the people only if they tell the royal family that their land is owned by the Marquis of Carabas. This impresses the royal family, so they allow the princess to marry him. Now, both Puss and his master live happily in the castle.

Details: This book was writtent o interest children in grades K-3 and is on a 5.6 reading level. ( )
