"Sometimes it feels like we’re still the ones in the pictures, and everything that happened after happened to other people. And then sometimes we’re the other people, and the strangers are in the frames.”

This had a bit more romance in it than other Mills books but I really liked that. Such lovely characters and it delves into the idea of college being something just to do instead of something very important, which I think needs more representation. Foster is the champ. ( )

I can only describe this book as sweet. It was predictable, and cute, and fluffy, which was absolutely perfect. Because sometimes, you just want a story where you know what will happen, and this delivered.

I had not heard about this book before it arrived in my first Uppercase Box, one of the book subscription boxes I joined. I do read a lot of YA but it tends to be SFF and not contemporary, so this is a bit outside the norm for me. But I'm glad I read it, even though normally a YA sports romance is something I'd walk past.

The main character, Devon, is a huge Jane Austen fan, which not-so-subtly sets up the Pride and Prejudice-esque romance between her and brooding football star Ezra. There's also her unrequited crush on her best friend Cas complicating issues. There's this great cast of supporting characters from Devon's cousin who moves in with them, Marabella, Lindsay, Emir...

... and except for Foster, they aren't explored adequately. I can only hope that Mills is gearing up for a sequel or something because why else would she make a huge deal about Foster's crush on Marabella, teenage and pregnant but staying mum on the father? And giving Emir these two weird out-of-left-field scenes?

This book, if you take away Deven and Ezra's romance, seemed incomplete. Strings were left dangling and I wanted to tie them off so badly. ( )

How do you explain an accidental favourite?
It's a personal thing. It's like something you never realised you wanted, even needed - and there it is, before your eyes and in your hands.

In my case it's like this:
I accidentally stumble on an ARC, decide to thumb through to scope a feel, - and find myself rooted to the spot with my nose buried in the above-mentioned book several hours later. Because darn it, I need to finish it, it's good!

This sort of thing is a little embarrassing. Mostly because I fall out of the world for a real long time, and then need to remind myself what I was doing before. And of course I have to buy the offender.
That's what happened to me here.

(It happened with, among other books, [b:The Chronicles of Narnia|11127|The Chronicles of Narnia (Chronicles of Narnia, #1-7)|C.S. Lewis|http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1449868701s/11127.jpg|781271]; I practically begged the sales-lady to "Save me a copy and I'll be back in half an hour, I swear!" She thought I was loony, I could tell.)

Anyway. This book. I love it so. But it's not perfect. But I still love it. And I'm sorry this happens to me when I read a really good book. I think it would work better to say it was inspired by.

EDIT 22/06/2016:

Read again. Enjoyed the book, though it's not perfect and flaws jumped out at me a whole lot more.
But I still liked it enough as an easy read.

FINAL VERDICT: PLEASE TRY IT! ( )

This was such an adorable book. Emma Mills is going on my list of must-read authors. Cute writing voice. The perfect blend of serious issues, high school humor, wonderful sibling and friend relationships (my favorite thing was the relationship between sister and cousin/brother), and sweet slow burn romance. Emma Mills writes those SO well. This was a completely feel-good book. Loved it!

My college essay was titled "School Lunches, TS High, and Me," and it was every bit as terrible as you'd expect.
