Next complaint: The biographies are written by various 'experts', and are signed by initials. Nowhere in the book can I find a list of these experts. In general, there seems to have been little attempt made to develop a 'house style' for the biographies. They vary a lot. To be fair, the source material also varies a lot, however I don't get a feeling that the book holds together. Some articles are well written and interesting. Others assume a greater interest in and knowledge of the political details of the time than I can bring. The variety is probably added to by the fact that the German edition lists four different translators.
No, this goes back to the library mostly unread. I do wish that before putting a book like this together the editors would think about who their readers will be, and then make sure all the contributors are writing for the same group of readers. ( )
