This book is the imagining of a conversation between Harriet Tubman and Susan B. Anthony discussing their life, trials, and successes over a cup of tea. The women take turns discussing their lives and hardships dumping many facts on each page and more just taking turns relaying facts about their life rather than anything based in a conversation. The book was very educational and I learned a good deal from it. It had many connections to other famous characters in history. This would be very well suited for older children to become familiar with these two women in an informal way. ( )

Women's rights were not very equal when it came to men and women years ago. Harriet Tubman and Susan B Anthony were advocates to help with promoting women's rights. Both ladies went through tough times to help get women's rights more equal and to do away with slavery. These women fought to no end and put in endless hours of hard work for this. My point of view for this story is that these women went through a lot to make women have better rights and to end slavery. If you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything. It was never easy, however you have to push through the tough times to get to the better times. ( )

The content of this book was fantastic as it championed the accomplishments of two incredible American women, Susan B. Anthony and Harriet Tubman. The back matter provided detailed information about both women, as well as other significant people of the time, such as John Brown. I found the illustrations, actually oil paintings, to be astounding. However, something about the style of the story, the fictitious conversation and afternoon spent between the two women, did not quite resonate with me. It was a creative way to tell their stories but something about the dialogue did not ring true.

Curricular connections: The book would be a wonderful introduction to discussing issues of slavery and women's rights in America. Many historical figures are mentioned besides the two main female figures. ( )

Despite this book being for Elementary students, I learned a lot myself. I didn’t even know that Harriet Tubman and Susan B. Anthony were alive during the same time period. It is also amazing to know that almost 100 years ago women could not even vote!

I wish I had read this book when I was in elementary. It is very inspiring. It could show a young girl, or anyone of color, not to let what some consider as weakness hold them back!

The illustrations were beautiful and fit the story perfectly. I loved how they had tea and discussed their stories. One page would be about Susan, the next about Harriet; it flowed seamlessly. Also it was a conversation and that helped the book feel like you were there as a third-party listening.

Children: I think this would be great for all children ages 7 to 12. I would really think this book would be excellent for a teacher to read this to their class. Also if someone has a child interested in art, the illustrations alone are worth the price of the book.

Parents: I believe parents would also enjoy reading this story. I learned so much I was never taught in school about both of these important historical figures. It could lead to wonderful conversations between you and your child about history. ( )
