Each morning, a frail, old, bespectacled fisherman heads out to sea, leaving his doting, matronly wife at home patiently caring for the house, awaiting his return in the evening. But one evening he doesn't come home, instead accidentally snared by a much larger, industrial fishing trawler that absentmindedly carries him across the Atlantic. Back home, the village wonders what might have happened, assuming his death, but his wife refuses to give up hope. She consults a fortune teller who sees his visage in a crepe . . . alive in Cuba. Convinced her husband is still alive, she sets off on an improbable mission to save him. Completely wordless, this heartwarming and often hilarious adventure is a testament to not only the power of sequential storytelling, but the power of love itself.… (altro)

This is a bit of an unconventional love story, if only because the characters are older. Or because they're already living together. Or because it's told entirely in illustration and there's no dialogue or captions.
It's the story of a salty old fisherman who goes out one day, only to be thrown off course and stranded at sea in his little fishing boat. He lives off sardines, befriends a seagull, is captured by coast guard, freed by pirates... it's a rollicking sea adventure.
His wife is left at home, of course, until she sets off to rescue him. She takes a cruise to Jamaica, ends up in Cuba, becomes famous for teaching posh women how to crochet... it's all rather absurd.
And in the end, the two are reunited. We see little flashes of their childhoods and their relationship together, but it's the beginning and the end of the book that inform the reader as to the nature of their love. This is certainly not a book for everyone, but how refreshing to read about a couple already in love and finding their way back together! ( )

Another wordless graphic novel. Quick read. Entertaining. Love-adventure story of both the fisherman lost at sea (via Pirates), and his wife set on finding him (via a cruise to Cuba). Full colour illustrations, something Raymond Briggsy- and Quentin Blakesy about this one. ( )

a fisherman husband and his wife separated by an accident at sea, and an indescribable train of events follow (they are reunited finally at the end). Beautiful artwork. ( )
