As a novel about a violist who's half-human, half-demon, Danilov had lots of great material: lightning baths, bits of magic, and trips into space. There are also lots of very funny lines. Unfortunately, the book is unevenly written. At times the book was so much fun that I didn't want to put it down. At other times, though, it dragged so much that I didn't want to pick it up.
