I discovered my love for Karla Kuskin's work after reading this collection of her poems. The book has chapters which are listed in the contents. Each chapter is named after the first poem in it, and then poems with the same theme follow that ( I will call them sub-poems). However, the sub-poems are only listed in the index and the number of them can range from about 5 to 20 in each chapter. I really liked how this book was arranged. Kuskin did not display the sub-poems' titles independently on the corresponding page but instead referred to each poem in the index by the first line. This made the poems very easy to find.
Another reason why I like this book is for the style of the poems. They are all very imaginative with a sense of humor that range in complexity. For example, this is one of the shortest poems: "I have a little guppy/I would rather have a puppy. The simple two line poem is actually really amusing.
Lastly the illustrations add a lot of character to the book. The picture that was drawn for the the example I mentioned earlier is, a disappointed looking boy, with a fish attached to a leash, that he is dragging it behind him. ( )

Each poem takes the reader to a place. It makes the reader feel as if they are there themselves. The poems area very child like but can be very inspiring to any reader if you take the time to understand the meaning. A great read. A very good book to radial before bedtime. ( )

This compilation of poems is full of poems children can relate to. The simplicity and rhyme of each poem help engage kids. Unlike Silverstein, I do not think that adults would enjoy these poems as much as children would. I would probably share these poems with children grades 1-3. ( )
